Demo account
Practise with virtual funds before anything is at risk
A demo account gives you the full dashboard, live market prices and a virtual balance to work with. It is the honest way to find out how the platform behaves before real money is involved - and to find out how you behave, which matters more.
A virtual balance to trade with
Live market prices across every market
Both Signal mode and Automated mode
All the risk controls, including the kill switch
Definition
What a demo account is
A demo account lets you trade with virtual money against real market conditions. Prices, charts and tools operate the same way they do on a live account, but no money is at stake, which makes it the cheapest place to learn the interface and test settings.
It is a rehearsal, not a forecast. The most valuable thing it teaches is the mechanics of placing, sizing and closing a position. The least reliable thing it teaches is how you will feel when the money is real.

Compared
Demo compared with a live account
| Demo account | Live account | |
|---|---|---|
| Funds | Virtual | Real money, from AU$250 |
| Market prices | Live | Live |
| Results | Not real | Real |
| Order fills | Usually filled under ideal conditions | Can include slippage and gaps |
| Emotional pressure | Minimal | Entirely real |
| Best for | Learning the interface and testing settings | Trading for real |
The fills row is the one that catches people out. A demo will typically fill an order at the requested price more often than a live account will.
Plan
A two-week plan that uses the demo properly
| Days | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 to 3 | Learn the dashboard. Read signals without acting on them and identify every field on the screen. |
| 4 to 7 | Approve trades yourself in Signal mode, with a stop-loss on each one, and watch how they resolve. |
| 8 to 10 | Change the risk settings and see what difference they make to the same market over the same period. |
| 11 to 14 | Switch on Automated mode and practise using the kill switch until finding it is automatic. |
Honest limits
What a demo cannot teach you
A demo is where you learn the mechanics. It is not where you learn what trading feels like. Without money on the line, holding a losing position is easy and closing a winning one early costs nothing, so the demo quietly rewards behaviour that a live account punishes.
Live orders can also fill at worse prices than a demo would show, particularly around news and at market opens. When you move to a live account, start at the minimum deposit and keep the settings you tested rather than starting fresh with something more aggressive.
Next step
Moving to a live account
When you are ready, a live account opens at a minimum deposit of AU$250. Your account manager can carry your demo settings across so the change is in the money, not in the configuration. Read the risk management tools page before you start, and keep the position sizes small for the first few weeks.
